What's in the bag?

Whenever I show up at a shoot, everyone is always asking, what's in that big bag? Well, for those of you gear junkies, here is a look at the gear I use.  As part of a link between the Charleston Center for Photography, where I teach photography, and B&H, a major photo super story in NYC, B&H is now listing all of the instructors gear and linking to their site! Pretty cool if you ask me.

Click on the links below to see what gear I am using lately!

Pattison's Spinathon 2011

This past weekend we raised $190,000 for the Pattison's Academy Summer Camp!  It was an unbelievable event, that I am honored to be a part of.  Check out some photos I captured from the day of the event, and of the kids that attend Pattison's Academy throughout the year!

Katie and Tony With Ashley Brokop Photography!

I had the opportunity to second shoot with the ever-talented photographer, Ashley Brokop in December, and had a blast!  I helped to shoot Katie and Tony's wedding here in Charleston, SC.  Here are a few of my favorites!

Unfortunately for all of us, Ashley is heading to Texas with her family this coming year, but I have a sneaking suspicion she'll be back.  She is a great photographer, an even better person, and someone I am honored to call a friend.  Thanks Ashley!

Charleston Jazz Orchestra 2011 Season Poster Photos

Every few months, depending on the season, I have the great privilege of working with the ridiculously talented group of artists affiliated with the Jazz Artists of Charleston and the Charleston Jazz Orchestra. They are a rare group, in that they realize the value of documentation of their art, through a visual art.  We are given incredible access to the behind the scenes areas that photographers dream of.  Lately, I have been helping them with some super fun shoots for their series of posters, which are designed by John Edward Royall III.  If you have not already been to experience one of their performances, it needs to jump to the top of your to do list!

The Sloat Family

Last Friday, I had the honor of photographing the Sloat family at Hampton Park in Charleston.  This is one of my favorite places to shoot, and the Sloat's quickly became one of my favorite families I have photographed!  I first met this family a couple of years ago through the annual Pattison's Academy Spinning Marathon at Eco Fitness, where I teach Spin. If you don't know about Pattison's Academy, you should.  The mission statement for Pattison's Academy, which recently became a public charter school, is as follows:

Pattison's Academy for Comprehensive Education will improve the quality of life for children with multiple disabilities by providing a comprehensive education program that integrates educational cirricula with functional rehabilitation instruction to maximize the potential and well being of the child and to ensure family inclusion.

I have seen so many children, and families, positively effected by this program.  It is amazing.  The people who carried this school from a dream to a reality are too many to name, but are all heroes in my eyes.  Great job, and congrats to you all!
